"Diamonds are forever..."

Many of us cut some hair of our horses main or tail to have a hair bundle as a keepsake of our beloved equine company. Long tail hair can be turned into a fine jewellery by nannasalmi, but did you know, that your horse´s hair (or ashes) can be turned into a gemstone, a cremation gemstone, too?
What is a cremation gemstone?
Cremation gemstones can be made of only a few grams of hair or a few hundred grams of ashes. The result is a "memory diamond”.
The body or hair of any living creature contains ca. 18% carbon, whilst diamonds are pure carbon. To turn hair or ashes into a gemstone takes some technology, whereas natural diamonds are minerals that form underground over billions of years.
In the first stage of the process the biogenic material is chemically prepared. The elements are obtained from the biogenic material in question, be it ash or hair. Because these elements vary from horse to horse they represent the uniqueness of every horse. After this the elements are prepared to allow a crystal to grow from them.

                                                   "Looks amazing!"
The gemstone is created in 2000 °C. The extracted elements are integrated into the gemstone's lattice structure. This process takes from 1 to 2 days, depending on its size.
Finally the professional gemstone cutters finish the stone and give raw crystal its shape.

Last fall we received an email from Austria.
Birgit had had a gemstone made of her late Arabian´s ashes.

You don´t have to settle for ordinary...

Although the company offered the possibility to have the gemstone setted in an ordinary piece of jewellery, Birgit wished to use the stone in a very special jewellery.
We thought that the idea was fantastic: a gemstone and the ribbon together,
what a touching and wonderful keepsake!

About the Rings Cavaletti and Cavaletti Star

the original collection by nannasalmi since 1990

Cavalettialso spelled cavalletti,  cavaletto (Italian: "little horse") are small jumps,
originally made of wood, used for basic horse training. Most consist of rails that
are about 4 inches (10 cm) wide, and 10 feet (3.0 m) long. The rails are inserted
into fixed standards, usually made in an "X" shape, that commonly are designed
to be placed at one of three preset heights ranging from a few inches off the
ground to a maximum of about 18 to 24 inches (46 to 61 cm).
- WIKIPEDIA -

"Do you have something for show jumpers?"

When thinking of what special we could offer the show jumpers, Nanna went through all the jumps thinking, how to stylize a motive inspired by them and turn it into a great looking, but not so obvious embellishment for a ring that suit both, men and women.

At last, but not least, she thought about cavaletti. Everybody has started with them, and everybody, no matter if a hobby rider or a world champion, keeps working with them from time to time.

With the stones the ring is called Cavaletti Star.

mechanical stress, metal plate shelters ribbon on palm side.

Wellies

Some seasons are wetter than the others.
Some places have more sunshine than the others.
Somewhere it rains more than somewhere else.

Rubber boots (or rain boots or wellies) are quite often
the most practical foot wear, even in the city.  Thank god - they all don´t
look that bad or boring anymore!

Tweed - In or Out?

In. Defenately.

"The original name of the cloth was tweel, Scots for twill, it being woven in a twilled rather than a plain pattern.

Like many names, a story tells that the name came almost by chance. About 1830, a London merchant received a letter from a Hawick firm, Wm. Watson & Sons, Dangerfield Mills about some tweels. The London merchant misinterpreted the handwriting, understanding it to be a trade-name taken from the river Tweed that flows through the Scottish Borders textile area. Subsequently the goods were advertised as Tweed, and the name has remained ever since."

"Tweed is a rough, woollen fabric, of a soft, open, flexible texture, resembling cheviot or homespun, but more closely woven. It is usually woven with a plain weave, twill or herringbone structure. Colour effects in the yarn may be obtained by mixing dyed wool before it is spun."
-Wikipedia-

Harris Tweed is the world’s only commercially produced handwoven tweed. The tweeds are handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.

Is there equestrian style without tweed?
According to Mr. Ralph Lauren - no.

We think that as well! One of the most popular patterns of the
nannasalmi collection is called 'tweed'.

Do you think these would look good with your tweeds?
Or could they be "the tweed" of your outfit?

"Contrary to popular belief, English women do not wear tweed nightgowns"
  -Hermione Gingold-

Ok, we believe that! Wear tweed around your finger or your wrist, wear it
next to your heart... Have your dearest friend with you all the time-
forever.

Black - boring?

Our customers often say:
"My horse´s tail is all black... Will the ribbon look boring?"
May we ask: does this horse look boring?

Katarzyna Okrzesik-Mikolajek

Yeah, right! No, it does not...

Horsehair is like silk, wool, fur or any other natural fibre -
it is never boring what ever color.
